So, how do you stop people racing eachother, and how do you police it?

Eveyone is going at 10/10ths and that's fair enough, after all it's a race track. Unfortunately everyone thinks they're a racing driver and very few people doing trackdays have any kind of driving ability, with the majority most certainly having the ability to kill or be killed.

Unless you make it a rule that everyone doing a trackday has to have some sort of prior training like an ARDS test or something like that it's not going to improve the standard of trackday driving, and i bet the amount of trackday business being done would soon suffer if those kinds of rules came in.

The sad thing is though that even if you did the training and pass a test it doesn't stop you from being a bloody idiot, so im my opinion the only way forward is to change peoples attitudes.

Perhaps a graphic video of people having bad trackday experiences and the results thereafter being shown in addition to the driver briefing just prior to getting on track might be one idea.

I wish everyone safe trackdays wherever you go

Very unfortunate but I'm with James. The 205 driver needs to be less racing minded but it seems it's par for the course at Knockhill.

Knockhill seems synonymous with wankers on track days. Check these plums out: http://www.streetfire.net/video/inca...scot_54283.htm

God knows what it was all about. But some tit who's spent £200 on a banger with the intention of driving like an absolute lunatic and not worrying if they write it off is not someone I want to share a track with. I hope they were banned from the circuit.

EDIT TO ADD: I blame TV programs like Top Gear and their rubbish features where they have fun in various pants cars with no doubt hilarious results. Plus the driving standards in BTCC being atrocious and others thinking this is how you drive on circuit.

As for the original incident I can understand the 205 driver not expecting a slow moving civic up on the brow of the hill and 2nd apex if he was dicing. Shame there were no flags to warn other drivers.

Knockhill, as a venue, does seem to attract a certain sort

Most of us have been doing this type of event for long enough to remember situations like this. As has already been said, a large disparity in driving ability, speed or attitude will always cause issues. I think technical circuits or those with intricate sections like Cadwell or KH allow local heroes to scalp vastly superior cars and for some, the temptation is too much. You're not telling me that a tuned, turbo'd 205 wouldn't fancy his chances against a Civic type R at a twisty track?

Licensing at events won't work. Grouping experience and cars does. The only issue is that many events are poorly subscribed and therefore some TDO's go for the easier day to run open pitlane, and this can be the result. Guys like the Cavalier wielding Jedis at the end, are there purely for the giggle. To a degree I don't mind that, but had he twatted someone after his wheel fell off, maybe I'd change my mind. As the trackday market shrinks, the sections that had previously been kept apart now share the same tarmac. It's only the privileged few organisers like RMA and Bookatrack that can sell just about any event on their terms, that can maintain standards and remain dick head free.

Good thread though. I hope you guys don't get too fussy about cheap old piles of shit rocking around Snett in a fortnight

Personaly i think the 205 crash was just a good old fashioned accident!!! ( remember when we used to have them? in the days before wheres theres blame etc....)
The funny bit with the pricks on the street fighters vid is where the bright orange moggy van comes past them like they are going backwards.
